Five variables shape the live quotation
Available routes and costs differ by country or region.
Product category can affect restrictions and route eligibility.
The packed parcel's measured scale weight.
Length, width and height can create a larger volumetric weight.
Each line can have different units, limits and billing rules.
Insurance, packaging and optional handling may alter the total.
Compare actual weight with volumetric weight
LoongBuy's public freight page gives an air-freight example of parcel length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5,000. This converts space into kilograms. The route decides how that result is applied, so the formula is a planning tool rather than a universal promise.
Length (cm) × width (cm) × height (cm) ÷ 5,000 = volumetric weight (kg).
A light parcel can still occupy expensive space
Imagine a packed parcel measuring 40 × 30 × 20 cm. Using the published example divisor, its volumetric weight is 4.8 kg. If the scale weight is 3.2 kg and the chosen route bills the larger applicable figure, the parcel may be rated closer to 4.8 kg. Always use the route's current result rather than treating this illustration as a quote.
| Input | Example |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 40 × 30 × 20 cm |
| Volume | 24,000 cm³ |
| Example volumetric weight | 24,000 ÷ 5,000 = 4.8 kg |
| Actual weight | 3.2 kg |
| Decision | Check the route's displayed billable weight |
Cheapest per kilogram is not always cheapest for the parcel
Routes can differ in first-weight units, continuation units, size limits, restricted contents, insurance and final-mile service. Compare the complete live quotation for the exact parcel. A static table copied into a blog can become inaccurate as soon as the route or carrier changes.
Reduce unnecessary volume without removing useful protection
Boxes, shoe packaging and thick outer protection may increase dimensions, but they can also protect the item. Decide by product fragility and replacement difficulty. Ask what will be removed, how the item will be protected afterward and whether the route uses dimensional billing.
Compare the complete quotations, not a slogan
Combining items can reduce repeated first-weight charges, but one bulky or restricted item can also remove routes or increase dimensional weight for the whole parcel. Splitting may improve route eligibility or protection while creating another minimum charge. There is no universal winner.
| Question | One parcel | Split parcels |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum charges | Usually paid once | May be paid for each parcel |
| Dimensional weight | Bulky items can shape the complete carton | Compact and bulky items can be priced separately |
| Route eligibility | Restricted contents affect the combined parcel | Different contents may qualify for different routes |
| Protection | Mixed shapes share one packing plan | Fragile or structured products can be isolated |
Build both versions only when the account supplies live packed measurements or a reliable rehearsal. Compare total freight, included protection, route limits and possible destination charges before choosing.
Notice products likely to change the parcel shape
These current catalogue examples represent bulky categories rather than shipping promises. Open each listing for current product details, then wait for warehouse measurements before estimating the final parcel.
Read the quote as a complete parcel decision
- Correct destination and postcode or region
- Current parcel contents and restricted-item status
- Measured scale weight and dimensions
- Displayed billable weight for each route
- Delivery scope, insurance and optional services
- Possible destination taxes or carrier handling
- Final amount shown before parcel submission
Save the route name, quote time, billable weight, parcel dimensions and included services together. A price screenshot without those inputs cannot explain why a later quotation changed.

Shipping cost guide FAQ
What is volumetric weight?+
Volumetric weight converts parcel dimensions into a chargeable weight. LoongBuy's public freight page gives the air-freight example length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5,000.
Will shipping use actual weight or volumetric weight?+
That depends on the available route and its rules. A carrier may charge using the greater applicable weight, so review the live route quotation instead of assuming the scale weight will be used.
Can I calculate shipping from a spreadsheet product price?+
No. Product price does not reveal packed weight, dimensions, destination, route restrictions or optional services. Use the spreadsheet for product comparison and the live parcel quotation for shipping.
Why can the final freight differ from the first estimate?+
The first calculation may use estimated product data. Final packing changes the measured parcel weight and dimensions, and the shipping company can recalculate the charge.
Does removing packaging always reduce the total cost?+
Not always. Reducing unnecessary volume can help, but packaging also protects the contents. Make the decision based on fragility, replacement difficulty and the route's billing rules.
